Drug Crimes
A drug crime is a violation of state or federal drug laws. Drug crimes include:
- Drug Possession, or possession of controlled substances, is one of the more serious types of drug crimes. Possession with intent to deliver or sell a controlled substance is a crime with escalating penalties.
- Drug Trafficking is a drug crime covering drug transactions and the money created through those transactions. Drug trafficking is broadly defined as the trade or dealing in illegal substances, which covers activities including cultivation, production, manufacturing, distribution, selling, financing, and transporting.
Commonly used illegal drugs in the United States include marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and PCP. Marijuana laws vary greatly between the states, and a number of states have recently allowed for the medical or recreational use of marijuana.
